I Really Have Better Things To Do

Have you ever had a Friday afternoon where you didn't want to do your chores? So you pack up the baby and head to Roberts and to come up with a project. That was today. Yes, I have loads of laundry to fold and I should work on Primary stuff, but I really rather buy fun scrapbook paper. Here's the two projects I came up with:

1) Ellie's Room - I know, every Utah Mormon mom has block letters in their baby's room. But when I saw how my neighbor decorated hers, I just had to copy. I bought the paper but was able to round up the ribbon, flowers and buttons from my stuff. I had to go through my messy basement to find the embellishments...kinda made me think I should be organizing and cleaning up the basement instead of hot gluing bling to wood letters. That thought only lasted like 5 seconds.

And for the close-up just in case you want to see how cute it really is...

2) My Music Room - Before this project, all that was in piano room were 4 pictures from the Holy Land. Inspiring, yes, helpful to my 18 piano students, not really. So I found lots of clip art online of music notes. I added some colorful backgrounds and sent them off to be printed them off at Costco. Then I bought some super cheap frames at Wal-mart. The hardest and most complicated part was hanging them. I won't even try to count how many nail holes are behind each frame. Why is it so hard to get those things even?

OK, now that I've finished my projects...and blogged about it...its time to fold laundry.

Birthday Balloon

So my friends in the ward dropped off this balloon for my birthday. How cute it this? It's like a hot air balloon! In the basket, they loaded it up with chocolate cinnamon bears. Yum!

Fun In Primary

So I've been having some fun in Primary. Here is our Teacher Appreciation /Valentine gifts for our teachers. I made rice crispy treats, cut out with heart cookie cutter, stuck in a lollie pop stick, dipped in chocolate and added sprinkles, wrapped in cellophane and tied on a ribbon. Super easy and super cute.

And here are my invitations for Priesthood Preview. The envelopes are little white shirts made out of paper. Then I slipped the invitation inside. How cute is that!

Well, in case you are super impressed with my creativity and cuteness, know that none of these are original ideas. I am a great copier!

Sunny Side Of The Street

I love grapefruit, but....

So I went to the store the other day to stock up on food for the week. When I checked out at the cashier, the bill seemed a little high. Now, most people would have at least said something, but seeing how I was born with Jacobson-math-skills, I kept my mouth shut. Afterall my cart was kind of full, plus I bought steaks.

Well, the next day, Brent happened to notice the receipt on the counter. He asked why I bought 84 grapefruit. Now seeing how Brent doesn't like fruit, especially grapefruit, I thought he was just being sarcastic about all the new fruit I had bought. Then I looked at the receipt. Sure enough, I had spent $57 on grapefruit!

Thank heavens that I married a man who could count and thank heavens for Smith's customer service who reimbursed us for 80 grapefruit!

Raised as a Rebublican

Raspberries, scowls and growls: she does a whole lot better of saying what on her mind when the camera isn't rolling, but I think you get the idea.

The Long Awaited Day Came Too Soon

For about 3 months now, I have been looking forward to Ellie going to Nursery. This has been a tough age for church and each Sunday we would wonder how we were going to make it to January. Ellie is a pretty good baby, but once she started walking, we just can't make her sit still in church. And not just sit still, we can't get her to sit on the bench or even sit on the floor. She wants out. In early December, we started taking her into nursery. The nursery leaders liked the extra adults in there and we were thrilled to let Ellie play and interact with the other kids. She got along well, shared her toys and liked the snacks.

Well, this past Sunday was the day we had been looking forward to. The day that we could actually leave her in Nursery and we could go do our callings. I had to conduct Primary so Brent dropped her off. She didn't even give Brent a second look. She went straight to Bro. Bateman and the toys. Sigh. I checked in on her about an hour later. When I walked into the room and called her name, she merely glanced up and smiled and then went back to her coloring.

As a relatively new parent, I think its funny how you so look forward to the next milestone: sitting up, first step, first word, going to Nursery. And then when they hit that milestone, you'd give anything to have that little baby back.
